In the past decade, E-Cigarettes or Vaping has become almost commonplace. From those who feel it is a safe alternative to smoking, a good method to quitting, or the new social “it” thing to do, everyone from teenagers to adults are using it.
The produce essentially heats a liquid that goes into an aerosol which the user inhales. The products side effects are not limited to ultrafine particles that can be inhaled deep into the lungs with flavorants such as diacetyl a chemical that has been linked to serious lung disease.
Just read this quote from a young adult from an article recently published by NBC News:
“My friends and I believed e-cigarettes only released water vapor,” Tyra Nicolay of Shiprock, New Mexico, told the news conference.
Nicolay, a former vaper, said she enjoyed the candy flavors of vaping products.
“I’ve since learned that e-cigarettes are marketed in a way that appeal to kids,” Nicolay said, making them seem harmless.
Sadly the US Surgeon General recently released this statement sounding the alarm on the dangers that many are ignoring: “The handheld devices deliver not only addictive and harmful nicotine, but can be loaded with toxic chemicals such as lead, diacetyl and nickel,” U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy said
NBC News along with the Washington Post have reported on these dangers. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/e-cigarettes-aren-t-safe-remain-dangerous-children-surgeon-general-n693576
The concern among parents, physicians as well as many leading government officials is that the marketing of the product almost makes it appear to be a safe alternative.
“Nicotine … is highly addictive and has clear neurotoxic effects,” Dr. Benard Dreyer, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics said at a news conference.
“E-cigarettes have the potential to addict the next generation and it’s a major public health concern to us,” Dreyer added.
LEAV & STEINBERG, LLP is actively investigating all matters of E-cig dangers including those that have exploded causing significant burns.
Just this past week as reported by several news agencies, click here, Senator Charles Schumer of NY has requested that legislation be passed banning the sale of these known deadly products.
As the Country has gone through a century realizing that tobacco is a carcinogen and can cause cancer and other harmful diseases, it seems like E-cigarettes and those marketing the product have once again fooled the American public of the real dangers. This time, it seems that the alarms should be sounding even louder given that many see it as a safe alternative and worse our kids are using it under the mistaken belief it has not side effects.
